Eating with the Seasons

Quick Tips | January 12, 2017 | By

Have you ever come up with a fantastic menu only to find that when you go to the grocery store, you can’t seem to find all of the ingredients? In most areas, it’s possible to find fruit and vegetables year round because they’re imported in from warmer climates. The downside of these fruits and vegetables, is they lose about 10% of their flavor and nutrients while they’re in cool storage. The other downside is financially, imported products that are out of season are generally more expensive.

Here is a table which gives you a broad idea about what fruits and vegetables are available when, so that next time you are planning a menu, you won’t be disappointed.

Note: This table is based on produce availability in US, however this information should be generally relevant even if you’re not in the US. There are also many local resources such as agricultural departments where you can get information more specific to your area.
